Hodmezövasarhely (Neumarkt an der Theiß) liegt im Süden von Ungarn und gehört zum Komitat Csongrad. Bekanntheit erlangte die südungarische Stadt durch den Hugo Hartung-Roman "Ich denke oft an Piroschka" und dessen Verfilmung.
Darüber hinaus verfügt Hodmezövasarhely auch über einige interessante Sehenswürdigkeiten. Dazu zählen die im 18. Jahrhundert im Barockstil erbaute reformierte Altkirche, die 1799 errichtete reformierte Neukirche, das 1894 fertiggestellte Rathaus der Stadt sowie die griechisch-orthodoxe Kirche.
Sehenswert sind auch die Museen und Ausstellungen der Stadt wie das Hugo Hartung/Piroschka-Museum, das Janos Tornyai-Museum mit seinen ortsgeschichtlichen und archäologischen Ausstellungen und die Laszlo Nemeth-Gedenkstätte.
Weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten sind der Brunnen von Andras Janos Nagy, die Pfarrkirche des Heiligen Stephan und die jüdische Synagoge mit ihrer Holocaust-Ausstellung.
