Der ursprüngliche Ort Graun liegt in den Tiefen des Reschensees versenkt. Um Wasserkraft zur Energiegewinnung zu nutzen, wurde in den 1950er Jahren im Südtiroler Vinschgau dieser Stausee angelegt, wobei große Teile des Ortes überflutet wurden, nur der einstige romanische Kirchturm von St. Peter ragt noch wie ein anklagender Zeigefinger aus dem Wasser.
Bei einer Schifffahrt über den See kann man sich vom Kapitän die Geschichte der versunkenen Dörfer erzählen lassen. Zugunsten des Fortschritts mussten damals hunderte Menschen umgesiedelt werden, und am östlichen Seeufer wurde der Ort Graun neu errichtet.
Doch gerade dieser Kirchturm im Wasser ist heute ein Touristenmagnet, der unbedingt aufs Foto gebannt werden muss. Dabei übersehen viele, dass auch in einem noch erhaltenen Kirchlein, nämlich der spätgotischen St.-Anna-Kapelle aus dem Jahr 1521, eine besondere Sehenswürdigkeit des Ortes versteckt liegt: ein reich verzierter Renaissance-Altar.
Während die Berge im Sommer zu ausgedehnten Wanderungen einladen, können sich im Winter die Skifahrer im Skiparadies Reschenpass vergnügen, zu dem die Gebiete Schöneben, Haideralm und Nauders gehören.
